Veneers Q & A

What are veneers?

Veneers are thin coverings that fit over the front and sides of your natural teeth to drastically improve their appearance. Porcelain veneers are a cosmetic dentistry solution for teeth that are:

  • Cracked
  • Chipped
  • Misshapen
  • Discolored
  • Gapped
  • Weak
  • Too small
  • Worn down
  • Broken
  • Uneven

Veneers look and feel like natural teeth to give you the perfect smile you desire without downtime. They are strong, long-lasting, and they don’t stain easily.

Are veneers right for me?

To find out if you’re a good candidate for veneers, Dr. Schmelter and his team offer veneer consultations. They review your dental history, take X-rays, and examine your teeth and gums.

The My Time Dental Centers team offers trial veneers so you can see what they look like ahead of time. You choose the color, size, shape, and design of the veneers based on your preferences.

What happens during veneer placement?

Before veneer placement, Dr. Schmelter removes a small portion of enamel from the sides and front of your teeth. He takes digital scans of the teeth to create custom-fit veneers. When your veneers are ready, he cleans your teeth and ensures they fit properly.

He makes adjustments as needed. Dr. Schmelter permanently bonds the veneers to the front of your natural teeth to secure them in place. There’s no downtime after veneer placement, so you can resume a normal everyday routine right away.

How should I care for my new veneers?

Care for your new veneers properly to ensure they function as they’re designed to and remain intact long-term. Brush your teeth at least twice daily and floss every day. Don’t chew on hard objects, such as pencils, ice, hard candy, and popcorn kernels. Avoid opening packages with your teeth. Wear a mouthguard to protect veneers from teeth grinding or contact sports.

Call My Time Dental Centers if your veneers get damaged or become loose. See Dr. Schmelter and his team every six months for routine dental cleanings and exams.
