Dentures Q & A

What are dentures?

Dentures are artificial teeth that replace some or all permanent teeth that are missing, or are severely decayed and require extraction. The My Time Dental Centers team offers a wide variety of dentures to meet your needs, preferences, and lifestyle.

What are the benefits of dentures?

Some of the numerous benefits associated with dentures include:

  • A full set of teeth
  • No gaps
  • Strong teeth
  • An aesthetically pleasing smile
  • Clearer speech
  • Easier chewing
  • More self-confidence

With numerous dentures options available, Dr. Schmelter and his team find one that’s right for you. The My Time Dental Centers team uses up-to-date technology to develop dentures that look just like your natural teeth.

What are the different types of dentures?

Some of the many dentures available at My Time Dental Centers include:

  • Full dentures: replace all of your permanent teeth
  • Partial dentures: replace some missing permanent teeth
  • Immediate dentures: available immediately following extraction
  • Conventional dentures: removable full dentures
  • Implant-supported or implant-retained dentures: dentures supported by implants
  • Fixed dentures: remain fixed in place (not removable)
  • Removable dentures: dentures you can take out

To find out which dentures are right for you, Dr. Schmelter and his team review your medical and dental history. They examine your gums and teeth and take dental X-rays. If you have severely damaged or loose teeth, you may require extraction prior to denture placement.

What should I expect when getting dentures?

Prior to getting fitted for dentures, Dr. Schmelter takes digital scans of your mouth. If implant-supported dentures are right for you, he surgically implants metal posts within your jaw to support dentures. After a period of healing, a lab creates new custom-fit dentures. Dr. Schmelter makes sure your dentures fit properly, or permanently secures fixed dentures in place.

How should I care for my new dentures?

Dentures are long-lasting when you care for them properly. Use a denture cleaning solution for removable dentures. Brush dentures at least twice daily and see the My Time Dental Centers team for routine cleanings and dental exams. Avoid chewing on hard objects or opening packages with your teeth.

Don’t live with broken, severely decayed, loose, or missing teeth when a full set of beautiful new dentures awaits you. Book a consultation with My Time Dental Centers over the phone or online today.
