And we are here for you as your needs for care evolve.

For the health of the whole family

The American Dental Association generally recommends that everyone from infants to seniors visit their “dental home” for check-ups at six-month intervals. These routine “check-ups” include exams of the teeth and gums and screenings for pre-cancers and cancers. Evaluation by sight and with advanced diagnostic tools detects problems such as gum disease and tooth decay early.

Many times, gingivitis and early-stage enamel erosion or cavities do not produce symptoms. If symptoms are present, they are often subtle and not cause for concern. Without these ongoing exams, the underlying condition would go undetected. The damage progresses. When you have bleeding or a toothache, restorative treatment may be necessary to preserve the tooth and tissues.

Our skilled hygienists will also use professional instruments to remove stubborn plaque build-up (tartar) and bacteria from the teeth and at the gum line during your visit. They are trained to gently and precisely remove these substances that erode at the teeth and irritate and inflame the gums. We have invested in ultrasonic devices to reach areas that you cannot reach with conventional manual instruments. Ultrasonic cleaning is painless and effective and uses high-frequency vibration to lift debris as an alternative to manual scraping.

Oral care products, techniques, and preventive services are highly personalized and suggested or applied during these visits. Depending on your needs and situation, we may recommend:

  • Dental sealants to protect hard-to-reach and pitted back teeth from decay
  • Fluoride supplementation to remineralize the teeth and build up the enamel that protects the tooth structure
  • Oral appliances, such as mouthguards to prevent injuries to the teeth and jaws, and oral splints or nightguards to avoid chipped teeth and other damage from teeth-grinding (bruxism).

Some patients may require more frequent visits to our office. They may develop conditions, for instance, that put them at increased risk of gum disease or tooth decay. Additionally, patients with active periodontal disease can have difficulty managing systemic conditions alongside periodontitis (advanced gum disease).

It is essential that we stay on top of any changes to your overall health. Consider how diabetics’ high sugar levels and depressed salivary flow put them at increased risk of developing oral diseases and how patients with existing oral disease may be challenged to keep their blood sugar in check. It’s thought that bacteria from infected gums can travel through the bloodstream and set off an inflammatory process that affects blood sugar levels.
